Richard Pergolizzi, Jr., MD

Neurovascular Interventional Radiologist

Dr. Pergolizzi has over twenty-two years of experience in dedicated fulltime Interventional Neuroradiology/Neurointerventional Surgery. After finishing his fellowship training in Interventional Neuroradiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, he began working at MGH and Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in July 2000, as a Harvard Medical School Professor. He then accepted a position at INOVA Fairfax Hospital late in 2001, where he and his partner built a world class Neurointerventional Practice. This included both national and international referrals. In early 2012 he became the Director of Neurointerventional Surgery / Interventional Neuroradiology at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. In April of 2014, he left Inova Fairfax Hospital and began exploring new opportunities with the goal of developing a practice with the ability to better compete in the region and provide outstanding clinical care to his patients. After exploring both outpatient and hospital-based practice models, he joined Radiology Associates of Richmond which serves several HCA hospitals in the Central Virginia region and runs a thriving outpatient clinic for Vascular and Spine care, Richmond Vascular Center.

Dr Pergolizzi has extensive experience in handling Acute Ischemic Stroke intervention, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and vascular tumors of the head, neck, and spine. He also has significant experience in managing spine pain including spinal injections, nerve blocks and performing percutaneous kyphoplasty to treat spinal compression fractures.

When not busy at work, Dr Pergolizzi enjoys traveling, riding and working on his motorcycle collection, exploring new restaurants and spending time with his family.
